After the Berlin wall fell, representatives of the most significant northern German Brick Gothic basilicas founded a consortium. Colleagues from St Mary's Cathedral in Lübeck, St Nicolas' Cathedral in Lüneburg, the St Nicolas' and St George's Cathedrals in Wismar; from the abbey in Bad Doberan, St Mary's in Rostock, St. Nicolas' and St Mary's in Stralsund; from St. Nicolas' cathedral in Greifswald and from St. Petri's in Wolgast began to work closely together, aiming to promote to a wide-ranging public their cultural heritage sites.
The majority of these magnificant buildings have now been reunited in the European Route of Brick Gothic.
